Boogie Woogie Daisie

I wrote this song after observing the way people reacted to a lively tune, their feet in particular. One woman literally was jumping up and down and twirling about. I tried to capture the energy in this lively tune.

My Pickup Died

My son, Kyle, gave me the idea for this song. He told me this joke. We know, he said, that if you play a Beatle's song backwards you can hear "Paul is dead."  But what happens if you play a country song backwards? Answer: Your dog comes back to life, your ex wants to get back together and your pickup truck starts working again. I wrote this song to be a humorous sendoff of country songs.

I Am Not An Apostle

This song is inspired by a homily on the Five-Fold Ministries by Father Rob Torcynzki, pastor of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Mendocino CA. These are the ministries found in the Bible -- Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher. His message was that we don't need to be biblical figures in order to carry out these ministries in our day-to-day life. That hit home with me and by next Sunday I had finished this song.

This song is about my father, a survivor of the Depression and a broken family, and a WWII combat veteran. He died at the young age of 57 and I missed out on his being around as I raised my own family. I wrote this in honor of his 100th birthday, May 10, 1918. I hope the song will be a historical reminder of what his generation experienced.
